Am 28. August 1963 stellt Philips auf der Funkausstellung in Berlin den ersten Kassettenrekorder vor. Die Kassette bringt Musik ins Leben.
Doch auch die Straße erweckt die Musik auf Band zum Leben – nicht nur übers Autoradio. Im Ghettoblaster liefert sie ab den späten Siebzigerjahren den Sound für den Breakdance, der aus New York um die Welt geht. Mit Digitalisierung, Internet und Streaming verschwindet die Musikkassette nahezu vollständig. Aber auch nicht so ganz. Stars wie The Weeknd oder Taylor Swift veröffentlichen heute ihre Alben als limitierte Sondereditionen – auf Kassette!

Um die Hörer nicht zu täuschen, sendete das Radio alle 20 Minuten eine Nachricht, in der das Konzept der Aktion erklärt wurde. Die Hörer und Hörerinnen wurden ausserdem zu Reaktionen aufgefordert und sich unter anderem via eine Sondernummer zu melden. „Die Rückmeldungen sind sehr zahlreich. Die Leute sagen, sie seien beeindruckt. Aber fast alle haben die gleiche Forderung: ‚Gebt uns die Menschen zurück'“, zog Multone am Donnerstagabend eine erste Bilanz.[…]“
